Visitor visa to Canada

In order to start the procedure for applying for a visitor visa to Canada, a foreigner needs an invitation from a citizen of Canada, someone with permanent residency status, or a documented reason for arrival (business conference, short-term program, summer camp).

According to Canadian immigration law, the people that can confirm an invitation and request approval of a visa application are next of kin, acquaintances and friends. It is important to take into account that the inviting party will have to prove the details of the relationship to the applicant. A visitor’s visa to Canada is issued on average within a month from the date of application, but the processing time may vary depending on the applicant’s citizenship.

Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents can obtain a special visa called a Supervisor, which allows them to stay in Canada for up to two years without pause.
The visitor visa also includes a tourist visa, which is needed to travel to Canada. The main documents required to receive a tourist visa are a description of the travel route, copies of airline tickets and confirmation of hotel reservations.

This visa is needed for those who are going to work temporarily in Canada and have an invitation to work from a Canadian employer. There are several types of work permits:
1
Co-op Work Permit — a mandatory work permit for internship while studying. Such permission is tied to the training program at the educational institution, and the duration of work practice should not exceed 50% of the entire program. It is important to note that this work experience does not count towards the application for permanent resident status in Canada.
2
Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) — this is a work visa for graduates after completing their programs. It is an open work permit that does not require an employer reference, and grants the graduate the right to work in any province for anywhere from 8 months to 3 years.
3
Employer Specific Work Permit (LMIA based Work Permit) — a work permit issued on the basis of a job offer from a specific employer in Canada. This employer has proven to the public service their willingness and interest in hiring an international worker, especially in the case of certain specialists and workers. If the employer has applied (LMIA) and received approval to hire international laborers, then the work visa will be tied to that organization. An international worker can only be employed in this way for as long as is detailed in the work visa.
4
Open Work Permit — Canada cooperates with more than 30 countries around the world for the exchange of students and young professionals within the framework of the International Experience Canada (IEC) programs. An Open Work Permit is issued for a duration of one or two years following the selection rounds for these programs.
